Camping Fusina is the only camping which overlooks the lagoon, offering you an exclusive view over Venice. Its unique position allows you to reach it wether by car or from the water, from the lagoon's pearl, Venice, thanks to its ferrylines connection, or from the close Ro Port Mos Terminal, for arrivals and departures to and for Greece and Croatia.

The peninsula formed by Camping Fusina is a strip of land which extends itself between two waters:
on one side the wonderful Lagoon, with its local vegetation, its typical salt marshes, its brackish water mirrors and its litte towns, where time seems to have stopped, on the other side the suggestive Naviglio of the Brenta river, with its typical and characteristic perfumes and colors, its revolving bridges and its marvelous Venetian Villas. A unique and unrepeatable scenario, oscillating between the lagoon and the river ecosystems,
molded by a perfect balance, which gets lost in the end in the Adriatic Sea.

A NATURAL TERRACE ON THE LAGOON OF VENICE

The Carlo Scarpa's Design

Only the most passionate scholars of Carlo Scarpa's masterpieces might know that Camping Fusina was conceived by the Venetian architect's genius. In 1957 the project for Camping Fusina was entrusted to Carlo Scarpa, as it results by the construction of various artifacts related to each other by a long tree-lined straight avenue, as well as by the arrangement of a wide green area on the lagoon, with view over Venice.

The construction of the reception has a circular plan and it was created by using a concrete circular base,
protected by a sail covering and supported by three slender iron pillars.

The bar-restaurant construction presents a moving system obtained by wall sections of plastered and clay-blocks. A suggestive external iron staircase with cantilevered steps leads to a terrace.
The bar doors and windows were made in double order, with angled movement, mounted on a cantilevered metal beam; the underlying part can be opened by a series of pivot doors.

The toilets construction was built around a Greek brick wall.
The roof was obtained by flat elements of platform roof, placed in staggered levels.

The historic port of Venice

Fusina, located at the mouth of the Naviglio del Brenta, from evidences found during the excavations that were carried out in the area, seems to have been inhabited since the most ancient times. In 1400 this area had a relevant importance as it was the connecting point between Venice and the mainland. The remains of an ancient lighthouse are still visible, and they specify the role of goods-trade between the lagoon and the mainland of Fusina, which indicated the route to a small port located on the north-side of the mouth of the river Brenta.

Before the creation of the railway bridge (nineteenth century) and of the motorway bridge (century XX), Venice could be only reached from the water and Fusina was therefore the natural and unique transit point.

In 1884 the Venetian Society designed the Padua-Fusina railway station; the long steam train became part of the daily life of the population, receiving the affectionate nickname of "vaca mora", for its vents and puffs, similar to the bellowing sound, of its engine locomotive. From Fusina then left the historic boat nicknamed "Fusinèo" to the center of Venice.

"Fusina" is a sort of territorial vocation, deeply linked to its geographical area, and a choice that deviates from the usual usage of the "Venezia" brand.

Since 1958, Camping Fusina's being representing proudly its natural role of transit and overnight staying for guests, restoring its original function as the historic gateway to the lagoon city.
